I can’t lie, when I was in Harvey Nichol’s buying the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able foundation (you can read the review here) the sales woman did a great job at getting me to get the primer to go along with the foundation. So off home I went with my first Marc Jacobs products.
For £33 this is the most I’ve spent on a primer, it’s described on Harvey Nichols as:
A skin-smoothing, makeup-extending primer infused with five types of coconut to nourish and hydrate the complexion.
Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer brings the refreshing feel of coconut to your face while it perfects and extends makeup wear. With its hydrating, nutrient-rich formula, it is best for normal to dry skin types to create a smooth and improved skin surface before applying foundation. It’s enriched with concentrated coconut extracts that form a natural, vitamin-rich barrier between your skin and makeup.
The coconut water-derived polysaccharide complex mirrors the effect of synthetic priming ingredients, allowing your skin to breathe without compromising the skin-perfecting benefits. The result is makeup that stays on longer and skin that appears younger-looking and better than ever.
Under(Cover) is inspired by Marc Jacobs’s love of coconut water, and a “deconstructed coconut.” The five most essential coconut ingredients help prime and smooth skin:
- Coconut fruit: features skin-boosting vitamins and antioxidants.
- Coconut water: features nutrients for hydration and smoothing.
- Coconut milk: helps prime and smooth the complexion and blur imperfections.
- Coconut polysaccharides: help prime the complexion.
- Coconut extract: provides a natural coconut fragrance
I’ll be the first to admit I’m not usually a fan of coconut scent, sometimes it can be too much, but this primer isn’t strongly scented at all. It’s actually got a very subtle scent. The packaging is the same as the foundation, a sleek frosted glass bottle with a white cap and the product comes out in a pump and the product is a milky white.
My skin type is combination and usually I purchase primers that blur pores, this one is like nothing else I’ve tried. It makes my skin smooth and it’s a great base for foundation, especially for an occasion or night out. I think this primer really helps to hydrate my skin as well as blurring my pores. Which I really like because usually primers do one or the other. For the colder months this has been like an extra layer of hydration.
I don’t notice a huge difference in my makeup compared to when I use other primers. My makeup lasts all night and looks the same as when I first applied it, but that’s also due to the other products I use.
Personally I’m not sure I would buy this again, it does make a really great base for makeup but the price point puts me off. But having said that, I’ve had mine for around 10 months and it is still going pretty strong. So if you have the budget for it I’d recommend giving it a whirl.
Thank you so much for reading, what’s your go to primer?

For more of a mattifying primer that’s not drying Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Primer is good and I loved the sample I had of Hourglass’ Veil Mineral Primer – it literally makes your skin feel like silk and the foundations I applied over top looked perfect!

Thank you! I’ve been wanting to try the Fenty one but I didn’t like the foundations sob wasn’t sure if I’d like the primers! I’ve seen so many good reviews of the Hourglasss one! Might have to treat myself!
