Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette| Review

At the beginning of this year I made it one of my goals to be more creative and outgoing with my makeup. After looking into different brands and price ranges, I happened to be at the Urban Decay stand After swatching the shades on the back of my hands I decided this was the palette for me!

However as soon as I took that palette home I saw so many negative reviews and comments about this palette. I was a little annoyed but I was still glad that I had bought a colourful palette. It’s described on Urban Decayas:

Satisfy your colour addiction with Urban Decay`s Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette, a limited-edition set featuring 21 shades of their iconic Eyeshadow (the most ever in any UD palette!) from bold brights to matte white.

UD organized the shadows by colour family, creating a rainbow of ombre trios. The end result? A palette that not only looks stunning, but also delivers tons of options. Create dimensional ombre looks by working within the color-coordinated trios or experiment with multiple shade groups at once. With 18 NEW shades, three exclusives from past palettes, and a wide range of finishes, you will never run out of options.

Each Eyeshadow in the Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette features UD’s Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich colour, serious staying power and blendability.

I have pretty much used all 18 shades in the palette to create different looks.  I have created a Sunset Eye, Blue Smokey Eye, and Blue & Gold Halo Eye. However as for the double ended brush, I haven’t really used it much. Not for any reason but I always find myself reaching for my Spectrum or Real Techniques brushes!

Personally I think this palette is good quality. There are 18 shades, the price of the palette varies when it’s on sale, but full price is £43. Which is £2.39 per shadow. For me the darker shades are a lot more pigmented like Warning, Blindsided, Goldmine,  Platonic, Hundred and Minx.

Whereas shades like Jones, Faded and Iced are less pigmented but are easily buildable or a setting spray can be used to enhance the colour.

My favourite shades from the Full Spectrum palette are Metamorphosis, Blindsided, Goldmine, Seize, Warning, Alchemy and Hatter. Below is a photo of some swatches with the flash on so you can really see what the shades look like. Some swatches like Warning and Platonic are just one swipe on the skin, whereas Calavera, and Faded are a few swipes to build up the pigment.

From top to bottom: Gossip, Warning, Calavera, Hatter, Metamorphosis, Faded and Platonic.

Overall I do like this palette, I’d like the lighter shades to be more pigmented and for there to be a black shadow as well as a red, which are the only shades really missing from the palette. Personally I think if you want specific bold colours Makeup Geek are brilliant for pigmentation and quality. And you can create your own palette of colours. But for a palette of colour, I think it’s good one on the market and it’s fab for getting out of your comfort zone. Plus just by swatching the shades it’s given me inspiration for more creative looks!

Can you believe it’s taken me 18 months of blogging to finally review an eyeshadow palette! Thank you so much for reading! What are your favourite eyeshadow shades to use?

Until next time!

I was not a fan of this palette, I felt like the shadows were really chalky.. I love vibrant shades but if I was going to reach for a pop of color I would probably reach for my Kat Von D, Mi Vida Loca palette, there is a lot more matte shades. Thanks for the honest review. xo

I go for a variety of different eye looks but my absolute favourite at the moment must be to use a matte red as a lid colour, combine it with a crisp cat eye liner, lots of mascara and finishing with a red lisptick. It is a simple but still dramatic look.

Really love the look of this Urban Decay palette, however don’t know much I would use these bright colours as I tend to stick to neautral eyeshadow looks. Great review! x

Thank you! I agree, some are fab shades and others could be better! But it’s the same really in most palettes I find!
