Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara| Review

I wasn’t sure whether or not to do a review on the Better Than Sex mascara. I bought it last Summer after hearing so many bloggers and Youtubers rave about this mascara. I had put off buying it for ages as I didn’t want to get sucked into the hype. It seemed people either loved it or hated it. And for £19 I didn’t want to not like it.

After I bought it I was a little nervous to try it as there was so much hype around this mascara. For £19 you get 8g of product which isn’t much compared to my travel sized £8 Urban Decay Perversion mascara which holds 4g of product, you can read my review of Perversion here. Better Than Sex is described online as:

The Better Than Sex Mascara Hourglass-Shaped Brush was designed after discovering the bust-waist-hip ratio of an iconic silver screen Blonde Bombshell held the secret to the perfect brush silhouette that separates, coats and curls each lash to voluptuous perfection. One coat of the carbon black, collagen-fueled mascara formula and lashes are full, defined and stretched to unbelievable lengths. Two coats and lashes are even more luscious, curled and dramatic. Three coats and achieve the most intense black, oversized, multidimensional lashes possible!

After trying it a few times I realised I fell into the category of hating this mascara. It made my lashes clumpy and I found there was way too much product on the wand, making my lashes look awful. That was with one coat, I can’t imagine what 3 coats would look like! I also found that no matter how carefully I applied this mascara it transferred onto my lids. I made the mistake of trying it on my lower lashes and that was a complete mess! Another thing I found with Better Than Sex was that it flakes, even after a few hours wear.

But determined not to let £19 go completely to waste I decided to try the mascara after wiping off most of the product from the wand. This made me like Better Than Sex a teensy bit more. I found it separated my lashes and gave them volume. However it still left black marks on my lids, even when I was being super careful, and it flaked after a few hours.

It claimed to curls each lash to voluptuous perfection but weirdly it made my naturally curled lashes go straight. Like the formula of Better Than Sex weighed down my lashes, even after applying one coat with most of the formula wiped off the wand.

Overall I’m disappointed with this mascara. Curiosity got the better of me with Better Than Sex and for me it’s definitely not worth the hype. For a high end mascara I wanted to like it more, especially with all the surrounding hype. But not every product works for everyone, and this is one of those products for me.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you tried Better Than Sex? What do you think of it? Until next time!

Have you tried the Benefit Roller Lash? That’s a hugely hyped product that I haven’t tried yet either! But now I know not to get Better than Sex. Thanks! I don’t like the wand and fibers either it looks dried out too.

I have and I think it’s okay, prefer Urban Decays Perversion mascara! I was intrigued by the wand and it’s starting to dry up!

Oh no, I was planning on trying this, but maybe I’ll stick to my fave Benefit Roller Lash? Highly recommend.

I remember using this mascara and loving it for a few days but then somehow felt that it started to clump a lot and I had to stop using it for this reason. I bought it because of all the hype around it, but unfortunately it’s too heavy and clumpy for my liking.
    Loved reading your honest review.

I’m not sold on it either. Thankfully I didn’t spend the money, I got a travel size in one of my Glossy boxes. This is my sister’s holy grail mascara and we usually have very similar tastes, but I’m totally with you on the review. I don’t like the formula or the wand. Doesn’t work for me at all. When I want a thicker lash look, I’ll use UD perversion or Kiko extra volume sculpt, but my day to day most used are Benefit Roller Lash and Maybelline lash sensational. For me, mascara is like concealer in that I struggle to find a really good one, but when I do I don’t deviate from it much.

I agree! When I find a product that I love it takes a lot to try a new one, especially with mascara and concealer!
